Homework - Shopping in the future

We are looking at inventions this term and how simple machines work. Over the holidays you will begin thinking about what you can invent or innovate to make life easier. Look at this video clip of how someone thinks shopping will be made easier then write a list of all the amazing inventions you expect to have been developed over the next 10 years. (Mrs Taylor)

Report on Louis Braille:
Louis Braille was a famous inventor who invented something that would change life for many people. He was born in a small village near Paris, in 1809 and was blind from the age of three because of an accident with an awl (piercing tool) in his father’s leather shop... (Mrs Taylor)

'Rev it up' Show Review

On 9 June 2009 the fantastic cast of Perform! Educational Musicals, in Christchurch, came to perform a fantastic musical for the Storylines Festival 2009. In my opinion this was a fantastic opportunity to spread several important, meaningful messages that every Springston kid should know about.

This is a quick summary of the story: First, Claire enters a race. Then, she was off before she had time to really understand what she was doing in the race in the first place! She always thought herself to be a particularly ordinary person and yet here she was with the roar of engines all around, behind the wheel of a solar-powered racing car! But one thing is certain - Claire has to overcome all the obstacles set in her way and get past the finish line before B.B. Boswell, even if he has always been the scariest kid in school!

The only thing on her side seems to be the mystery package with the words ‘FUEL YOUR MIND’ waiting in the glove box …

The thing I loved most about the show was the humour and passion displayed by the cast members. I also liked the message in the play about the environment. My favourite character was Claire as she was a kind, thoughtful person. Although she thought she was not special, she soon realises that everyone is special or has a special talent. My least favourite character was B.B. Boswell, a boy who went to the same school as Claire. In the play B.B. was the most popular kid in school, and everyone was his friend. He was a superstar at rugby and he was a real brain-box in the classroom!

In my view though, B.B. was a stuck up show-off who thought he was the best and that no-one could beat him, but this changes in the big school race.

I think the show could be improved by maybe having two short shows, i.e one on one day and one the next, as people got quite fidgety, and it would be a good thing having two shows as we would have something to look forward to the next day!

Kachina's T-Shirt

I think this is a good saying for a t-shirt because it means if you have a good attitude towards work, you will learn lots and have fun as well.

Morgan's T-Shirt Design

I choose this phrase because, a lot of people judge others on what they look like, instead of finding out what's really inside.

Jack and the beanstalk

Well, I last saw Jack taking the cow to the market because, you see, we were broke at the time. Then, when he got back, he had a bunch of BEANS!!! in his hand. So I said, "That won't do!", told him off and sent him to bed with no dinner. I also told him to throw the beans out the window.

The next morning I went into Jack's room to see if he was awake yet, but when I went in Jack wasn't there. All I could see was an empty bed and a humongous leaf hanging in through the window.

To my amazement, when I rushed outside it was a giant BEANSTALK!!! I looked up it. It reached right up to the sky and about halfway up I saw Jack climbing up it. I yelled out to him, "Jack you come down this instant!"

There was no reply, so I went inside to finish my cup of tea. When Jack finally came down he was carrying something most extraordinary, a goose.

When he got back inside he said he was going to make it a hutch in the cow's old shed. Now I must say Jack did look after that goose, he went to check on it every morning. But you see, after a while every morning next to the goose, was a golden egg. So we became rich and were never hungry again.
